Message from John Waite to his European fans:

Hi everyone!

We are very exited to be
coming back to europe so soon.

The band had a great time on the last
trip and are all geared up to play wherever we can.

It should be exiting and fresh.

We have been recording a live album and hope to
have that out in time for the trip.

See you soon !

best John and band.

**Bert Heerink, support act in Zoetermeer

Bert Heerink, the ex lead vocalist for Vandenberg did release this Dutch remake of the bad English hit Time Stood Still.

Taken from the album: Storm Na de Stilte

As a result of the TV Commercial for Heineken, the album “Storm after the Quiet” is born. Bert sang Dutch versions of famous pop classics such as “The heat is on”, “More then a feeling” and ”Black Velvet. Translated byBert  amongst others Peter Koelewijn, Jaap Eggermont, Barry Hay and Huub van der Lubbe. The album is successful and deliveres a few hits.

Bert did more remakes of John Waite( The Babys) songs :

Isn't It Time ( Wordt het geen tijd)

Recht Uit het Hart( Straight To Your Heart)

Missing You ( Niet dat Ik je mis)

So one could fairly suggest that Bert Heerink likes John's music.

John Waite with Bobby Keys

Zz_john_waith_bobby_keys

John Waite is currently working in the Studio in Nashville on new material.

John waite with Bobby Keys.

Bobby Keys (born December 18, 1943, Slaton, Texas)  is an American saxophone player and together with Jim Price and occasionally Jim Horn formed the most in-demandhorn section of the 1970s. They appear on albums by The Who, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison's All Things Must Pass, Eric Clapton, and Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Keys was born the same day and in the same year as Keith Richards. Keys has been on the road as a touring musician since 1956.

Keys started touring at age fourteen with Bobby Vee and fellow Texan Buddy Holly. Keyes is best known as being the main saxophone player for The Rolling Stones, playing on every album from 1969 until 1974, and from 1980 to present, and performing on all Stones tours since 1970 except for the 1981 US Tour when Ernie Watts (no relation to Charlie Watts) replaced him. Keys has played on hundreds of recordings, including many unaccredited performances such as on Dion's "Runaround Sue."

He is known for playing the saxophone solo on the 1971 hit "Brown Sugar" and for the film shot of him and Keith Richards (born the same day as Keys) throwing a television set from the 10th floor of a hotel somewhere during the 1972 American Tour, as seen in the Stones' unreleased 1972 concert movie Cocksucker Blues. He is also featured in the 1971 concert movie Mad Dogs and Englishmen narrating the story of his early life while driving around downtown Dallas. Another famous recording by Keys is the baritone saxophone on Elvis Presley's "Return to Sender".

Keys came into the Rolling Stones around 1969. Keys, with the addition of Mick Taylor, changed the sound of the Rolling Stones. Both horns and Mick Taylor made their debut on Let it Bleed. Keys became Richard's new partner in crime, as well as brilliantly complementing Richard's guitar playing on numerous Stones classics. Jagger was always dubious of Keys' entrance into the Stones because it enhanced Richard's leadership. Jagger and Keys, however, would become close in the early 1970s, with Keys serving as an attendant at Jagger's wedding.

From 1973-1975, Keys participated in John Lennon's famous Lost Weekend in Los Angeles along with Ringo Starr, Harry Nilsson, and Keith Moon. Keys had played with Lennon in the Plastic Ono Band and while in Los Angeles he played on Lennon's albums Walls and Bridges and Rock 'n Roll. Additionally, Keys took part in the last known recording session between Paul McCartney and Lennon; this session is known as A Toot and a Snore in '74.

In the late 1980's, Keys became the musical director for Ronnie Wood's Miami club Woody's On the Beach. The first week the club opened, Keys booked Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, and the Crickets.

Keys released two albums in the 1970's. In 1972, Keys released a self-titled instrumental album on Warner Bros. Records that featured Ringo Starr, George Harrison, and Eric Clapton. Keys released his second album Gimme the Key on Ringo Starr's record label Ring O'Records in 1975.

Press release on '' In Real Time''

John Waite.
To Bring High-Octane Show Back to Europe.
14-City Tour Kicks Off in Vienna, Austria February 17, 2010.
New Live Album, In Real Time, Set for February 2010 Release.
NASHVILLE, TN –
John Waite will bring his trademark dynamic live performances back to Europe for a 14-city sweep in February and March, 2010.
Beginning in Vienna, Austria on Feb. 17, 2010, the tour will include stops in Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, England and Portugal.
In Real Time, an electrifying new live CD recorded on tour last year with Waite’s super-charged three-piece band, will be released in conjunction with the 2010 European tour and will be available for sale at each performance and on iTunes.
Classic hits like “Change,” “Missing You,” The Babys’ “Back On My Feet Again,” Bad English’s “Best Of What I’ve Got” and “When I See You Smile” and even a blistering cover of Zep’s “Rock and Roll” take on entirely new lives in their raw forms on the spontaneously delicious In Real Time
.
“It’s a lot of the hits played how we play them live,” Waite says of In Real Time.
“It’s like late 60’s rock in London when it was performance driven, prior to becoming commercialized – back in the days when everybody got in a transient van, sat on the amps and drove for hours to the next gig.
When I set out to do this record, I wanted to simplify it down to what I remember rock and roll being as a kid – a three-piece band with a singer – so it’s very raw and right on the edge.”
Fans attending Waite’s shows in Europe can expect the same kind of unrefined live energy that In Real Time delivers.
Waite is currently collaborating with Matchbox 20 lead guitarist/songwriter Kyle Cook, as the two ready fresh new music for Waite’s highly anticipated forthcoming solo EP, which is also set for a 2010 release.

John Waite.

Three decades have passed since a restless, wild-eyed teenager from northwest England first packed his bags for London to pursue his passion for music, and though he has enjoyed formidably staying power, chart-topping records and sold-out concerts around the world, John Waite’s hunger has never diminished – it has simply become something much more complex.

The turn of the page to 2010 finds the ever-evolving British singer/songwriter preparing the release of In Real Time, an electrifying live album recorded with his high-octane three-piece band in Orlando, Florida in 2009.

Classic hits like “Change,” The Babys’ “Back On My Feet Again” and “Head First,” Bad English’s “Best Of What I’ve Got” and even a blistering cover of Zep’s “Rock and Roll” take on entirely new lives in their raw forms on the spontaneously delicious In Real Time.

As impressive as the live album is and Waite’s live performances are, it became clear to him on a recent tour of Europe that his true focus is not on where he has been, but where he is going. He realized the need, more than anything else at the moment, to take a step forward and create something new and amazing.

“I think there was a chapter between the past and the future on that tour,” Waite says. “As much as this live album is a defining moment and as much as I enjoyed playing those songs, I consider this is a new beginning.” Waite is referring specifically to the sweet pocket of creativity he is currently enjoying with Matchbox 20 lead guitarist/songwriter Kyle Cook, as the two ready fresh new music for Waite’s highly anticipated forthcoming solo album.

“It’s pretty much extraordinary,” Waite says of the material he is creating with Cook, who he met through a mutual friend. “It’s not like what people would expect from me. It’s a step to the left. There’s a rock imprint on the music and a melodic presence, but it’s just shifted gears. It has an identity and a philosophy of its own, which is really fresh for me.”

The collaboration has proved to be nothing short of phenomenal, if songs like “Evil” (a thumping rocker-meets-dance-club tour de force) and “Gone” (a hook-laced better-off-on-the-open-road anthem) are any indication of what is to come. The as-yet-untitled eclectic collection of brand new music, Waite’s first studio album since 2007’s Downtown…Journey of Heart, is set for a 2010 release.

“I’m not saying it’s high art, but genuinely speaking, it’s fantastic for me,” Waite says, reflecting on his new music. “I certainly am interested in spending the rest of my life doing something creative rather than just living in the past.”

“HUMBLE” BEGINNINGS

Inspired by British blues-based bands like Free, the Small Faces, and Humble Pie, it was during the desperately cold winter of 1975 that Waite and the Babys cut their rock’n’roll teeth, rehearsing and playing gigs on the London scene. Two years later, a combination of hard work, sheer persistence, and a great sense of adventure brought the band success in America. By ‘78, with two albums under its collective belt and a Top 40 hit with “Isn’t It Time?,” The Babys released their third album, which spawned the chart smash “Every Time I Think Of You...” Flash forward six years and the title of that latter song would provide the immortal opening lines to what is undeniably one of the all-time greatest pop/rock ballads, “Missing You.”

Waite had cut five albums with The Babys before moving to New York to go solo during the early 1980s. His first solo album, Ignition, boasted the MTV/rock radio staple “Change.” A year later, back with a new record on a new label, Waite was smiling again. On September 22, 1984, he found himself at number one on the hit parade with “Missing You.” The song topped the international charts. Twenty years on, this classic remains a radio staple around the globe. “It was an unbelievable experience at the time –and still something I’m very proud of,” he says.

In the late 1980s, Waite released more solo albums before returning to the top of the charts during a two-album tenure as front man for the pop/rock super group Bad English, which featured Waite’s former Babys bandmates Jonathan Cain and Ricky Phillips along with Neal Schon from Journey and drummer Deen Castronovo. The band’s number one single, “When I See You Smile,” sparked sold-out concert tours and a succession of Billboard Hot 100 Hits. But when the group’s spark was gone, Waite packed his bags and returned to life as a solo songsmith.

Waite now prefers to balance his life between singing on stage and composing and recording honest, heartfelt solo albums. He has written and recorded several songs for feature films. For kicks (and perhaps honor, as a diehard Beatles fan), he even enjoyed a brief stint a few years ago on a Ringo Starr concert tour. Not one to be deterred by the changing face of the music industry, John Waite is content in simply being true to himself and his art.

The right mood for the European gigs

To get in to the right mood for the European gigs.

These are two relative new performances by John Waite and his band of the same Babys' song: Everytime I Think Of you.

Mariott  Resort, october 10th 2009.

We all have our favorite artists; mine are The Who, Paul Rodgers and the man I had the pleasure to see october 10th at the JW Marriott Resort, John Waite.

For those that may not recognize his name immediately, you definitely know at least one, but probably several of his songs. His classic Billboard #1 hit and hugely popular song “Missing You” from his 1984 album No Brakes has been covered by mega artists like Tina Turner, Brooks & Dunn and Rod Stewart to name a few. In 2007 the song was rereleased as a duet with Waite singing alongside bluegrass goddess Alison Krauss. It received wide acclaim, reached #34 on the country charts and reminded people, 25 years later, what a great song that really is.

You might also know “Change” from his 1982 album, Ignition. This song was in heavy rotation on MTV; yes…back when MTV actually played videos… and featured Waite as a reporter trying to rescue a beautiful blonde from the ledge of a building—a great tune.

Other popular songs include the #1 hit “When I See You Smile” from the 1989 Bad English album, the super group of the same name formed in 1988 and included Journey members, Jonathan Cain (who was also in the band The Baby’s with Waite in the 70s) and guitarist Neal Schon. Drummer Dean Castronovo would actually go on to join Journey and bassist Ricky Phillips, another band mate from The Baby’s rounded out the group.

Speaking of The Baby’s, other Waite hits you probably know include, “Everytime I think of You”, “Isn’t it Time”, “Back on My Feet Again” and “Midnight Rendezvous”, all songs that he played for the crowd last  october 10th .

The resort at the JW Marriott at Desert Ridge provides a lovely and intimate setting under the stars. This show was a part of a continuing concert series that included jazzman, Boney James the night before and in March (26, 27 & 28) the resort will feature a festival with acts that include REO Speedwagon, John Legend and once again, Waite.

John Waite came on stage a little before 8 p.m. to the delight of the crowd and opened with “Change”. Clad in a chic black striped suit, the 57 year-old Waite looked great and sounded even better. He treated the crowd to the first of several Baby’s tunes with “Back on My feet Again” which did indeed get people on their feet and then continued with the power ballad, “When I See You Smile”-- always a crowd favorite.

The band Waite assembled was tight and really jammed – of note was the stellar guitar work from Luis who wowed the crowd on more than one occasion. Waite shared that he’d just returned from England and before the show, I had the good fortune to spend some time with him where he told me he’d only gotten about 4 hours of sleep! I wondered how on earth he would be able to do it – but there is no doubt that when you have a crowd giving you the energy, that’s all it takes—and this crowd didn’t disappoint.

The Bad English tune “Best of What I Got” was next followed by “How Did I Get by Without You” a lovely and romantic song that is a bit less known, but one of my favorites. You can find it on his 1995 album Temple Bar. Next came a hard-rocking cover of the Bob Dylan classic “All Along the Watchtower” which was just awesome. The covers continued when Waite treated us to a beautiful version of the Vince Gill song, “Whenever You Come Around”. Waite shared that he’d performed it at Opryland in Nashville with Vince Gill and Alison Krauss, good thing for us because this song was a real treat.

The sweet, “New York City Girl” from 2005’s The Hard Way was next and then Waite launched into a series of songs that moved the crowd to the edge of the stage and had people dancing in the aisles. “Everytime I Think of You”, “Isn’t it Time” and “Missing You” thrilled us while “Midnight Rendezvous” and “Head First” rocked the house. After a short break and a stage pounding cry for more from the crowd, the band returned to do a blistering version of Zeppelin’sRock & Roll”.

The only bad thing I have to say about this show was that it ended too soon. We all wanted more Waite!! Well…I guess we’ll have to be patient until he returns to the Valley in March. This was in fact a nice long set of songs that spanned John Waite’s career and really showcased his vast and varied catalog of fantastic songs. He is a gifted singer and the years have not robbed him of that gift one bit—his voice is as good, or dare I say even better than it was over 30 years ago.

Go get his album Falling Backwards or Downtown: Journey of a Heart, both are compilations that feature most of the songs he played at this show and then stay tuned to your Phoenix Concerts Examiner for news and ticket info for the upcoming show in March. As a music fan, you won’t want to miss this opportunity to see a truly fantastic musician, performer, singer and songwriter – John Waite is the real deal and his show is a must-see.

A+ to you John—thanks for always putting on such a great show—whether acoustic or full band you ROCK! See you in februari/March 2010!!

Keith Reid on working with John Waite

Gold Fever( audioclip)

Keith Reid about The Common Thread, and about John Waite( they met again in june 2009 in Colchester

John Waite: The thing about John is he’s incredibly soulful. You know, he’s got an exceptionally ... he’s got like a unique voice, in as much as, you know, it’s very identifiable. Not in a kind of an R&B kind of way, but he just ... [he's] kind of almost like a country singer, you know. He sings just very directly, and you sort of really feel that he’s experiencing the emotions. I was introduced to him by a mutual friend, a guy called Frankie LaRocca, who was a friend of mine from New York, a drummer. And we got together one nightKeith_reid_low_resolution_2 , John and I and Frankie and a few other guys, and we went out and had a couple glasses of wine, and started talking about the meaning of life — putting the rights and the wrongs of the world together — and you know, it was just one of those great evenings, and I just went home and kind of wrote it all down. I just put down what had been happening, you know, the first few lines of the song “You speak out like children/the dreams we chase and pursue,” [from "God's Shadow" off the new record] and ... it was kind of in some ways laying down what had happened. And then I turned to the thought that, basically, at the end of the day, as I put it in the song, we lie down in God’s shadow, but by that I mean that, you know, the kind of whatever sort of spiritual feelings one has in the face of ... we kind of lie down in the face of the unknown. And it was one of those magical things, and the song sort of came out of that direct experience.
